How to not get most of a WordPress post blocked on Facebook

Facebook did not let the most of my WordPress post, “Some Thoughts for New-Spring-or-Autumn Holiday-Time 2014” (posted 2014/04/16) appear, simply printing “[ 404 more words. ]” (which don’t open when you click on that!) at the end of the third line of text. Could this be because I included links to two other media sites a few lines later in that post? If so, can anyone suggest how I can avoid this happening?

No suggestions yet? I’m hoping to publish another post tomorrow & would like to include outside links in it, & am still wondering how to do that without most of the post being blocked on Facebook again. I would really appreciate help on this.

  • Hi there,

I’d be happy to try and explain what’s going on there.

Facebook limits the number of characters we can include in the posting, which is why you’re seeing the [404 more words] notice at the end of the post summary. We generally try to use the post excerpt, if it has one, otherwise we automatically generate one from the text of the post. The summary cannot contains links.

You could add an excerpt to your posts. That would give you more control over how the post appears on Facebook. Unfortunately, due to Facebook’s limitations, there’s no way to push the entire post, with links, at this time.

Thanks for asking, and hope that helps!

    Ben
