How to order events chronologically

  Hi, I need help getting my events page to appear in chronological order (from most recent to oldest) not on the preview but on the Events page itself. I have tried adding parent categories but the events still appear from oldest to newest instead of the other way around. II have also tried entering short code: [events orderby=’event_start_date’] and it still has not worked. Thank you.
