How to permanently remove file from appearing online

I uploaded a pdf file that I no longer want available as it has personal information. I deleted it permanently from my wordpress media collection, but it seems to still turn up when I do a search in Google for my name. Is there any way to remove the file other than what I have already done? I would have assumed if I deleted the pdf file on my blog it should not appear online still. I also have changed my settings to making my blog private for the time being until this can be resolved and I revamp my site. Thank you for any suggestions, it is greatly appreciated from a new wordpress user.

    * is deleting my site the best solution? I am afraid if I do this the file will still appear…

Deleting your site is not the solution – set private is OK but not required if the file is really gone

Deleting the file is good – is it also gone from the media library?

Search engines clear their cache in something like 3 to 6 months – you could do battle with the search engines and ask them to delete the file from their cache – I don’t know how to go about working with the search engines – remember that Google is not the only search engine

Maybe one of the others will have some tips for you

Search engines hang on to deleted items for weeks or months. You could attempt to contact Google if the only thing that is showing is a cached version, or are you saying that the full version is still there?

Setting the site to Private should set the media files to Private as well.
