How to post a "sticky" or convert to a static front page?

How do I convert my Reddit theme from a dynamic front page to a static front page with the posts following? I want to put a time-sensitive message in the static page, and have the posts already present in the “home” page to follow. Another way to do this is perhaps to use a top-of-page “sticky” that will appear at the top of the post sequence – in which case I don’t need a static front page. Which approach would work? I don’t see a discussion of “stickies” in my theme descriptions.

  • Hi there,

Stickies sound more like what you want to use here, as setting a static page would mean that you would lose the blog feed on home, as you have it now. All your posts would need to be moved to a different page to be displayed.

You can mark some posts as Sticky to make them appear above the other posts, regardless of wether they are more recent or not. The Reddle theme goes a step further by adding special styling (a 1px border) to sticky posts as you can see here in the demo: http://reddledemo.wordpress.com/

Instructions on how to make your blog posts into stickies can be found here: Post Visibility – Sticky Posts

Thank you. That is the information I was looking for. You’re right, converting to a static page was not the solution, but tagging the posts appropriately was. Very happy with the end-result.

  • Great, glad I could help!

    Happy Blogging :)
