    hello.

I created a custom menu and added it to my sidebar via widgets.

I added an ‘about me’ page to my custom menu. no problem.

but the ‘about me’ page is ALSO showing up in the sidebar’s ‘pages’ menu.

    how can I prevent that?

    – thanks.

    Hi there,

When you create a custom menu, you can choose which menu to display in your sidebar widget.

For example, you can create more than one custom menu, one that includes “About Me” and another one (with a different title) that does not include “About Me”. The menu you use for main site navigation could be called “Main” and the sidebar menu could be called “Sidebar”. You choose those titles.

Then, in the sidebar widget drop-down menu, choose the menu you called “Sidebar” which does not include “About Me”.

    I found the answer …

in the widgets page, open the ‘pages’ widget, and there will be an “Exclude:” option where you can input the page id’s of the pages that you want to exclude.

… although if I had lots of pages that I did NOT want in the ‘pages’ sidebar menu, that that “Exclude:” option would be a bit obnoxious.

ideally, it would be nice if the page editor would allow you to choose which menu(s) it should be listed in.

Oh, cool. That’s a good way to do it also.

    @littledebbieoatmealcookie:
You open the Pages widget, enter the ID number of the page in the Exclude field, save.
To find the ID number of the page, you go to Pages > All Pages: hover over the page title and look at the status/progress bar of your browser, or click Edit under the page title and look at the adress bar of your browser.

I think I’d choose the option of making separate menus for each section of my page, though, just because that is the one I’m most familiar with.

Ah sorry, your reply wasn’t there when I started typing!

“I think I’d choose the option of making separate menus for each section of my page”

the problem with that is that, now, every time you create a page, you have to subsequently go to the “Dashboard/Edit Menus” and specifically assign the new page to some menu …

I wish that while I was creating a page, there was an option right there that allowed me to do the assigning.

… but I am only excluding one page

That would indeed be brilliant. :)
