how to prevent new user registrations?

    Usually I want people to sign up for my blog. But lately I have emails daily from suspicious Russian addresses or fake email accounts. The notifications are from WordPress that ‘There is a new user registration on your site.’ I have turned off subscriptions and email lists on the site, so I can’t figure out where these new registrations are coming from. I think they are joining my page ‘team’ as with subscriber status. How do I block or prevent this????

    Good morning!
    You have already turned off subscriptions and email lists, about the only thing left is the follow widget:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

    This doe not specifically tell you how to stop followers but if you reverse the process you should be able to :reverse” the process.

    The other thing you may want to look at is are the emails really coming from WordPress? If you expand the email header you will be able to see if the actual email address comes from WordPress or someplace else.

    If you are not sure, you could reply with a cut and paste of the expanded email header and we could take a look. Here is a screenshot from my hotmail showing a header:
