How to prevent payments coming from my bank accounts in future

  • Unknown's avatar

In 2014 I was part of a team of Birkbeck University students who were creating a poetry journal and posting the publication on a website hosted through wordpress – http://fortyfivesquarepoetry.com. You will see in the pdf of the 2014 journal on the homepage that I was editor for that edition. On 29 May 2014 my card was used to pay for domain registration and mapping but the card details were not saved since I would not be editing the subsequent editions of the journal. I believed at that time that since my card details were not saved that I would not be billed in future and that WordPress would request new payment details which the 2015 journal team would deal with.

In March of this year the 2015 editorial team of 45 Square Poetry took over the site. Their editorial team is listed on the relevant page of the site – http://fortyfivesquarepoetry.com/editorial-board/ . However, the new team did not enter new payment details and WordPress has taken this year’s payment using the card details that they had retained from last year, mine, and this came out of my account on 1 May 2015.

I have written to the new team asking to be reimbursed and to be informed when they will be adding new card details. I have yet to receive a reply.

I have informed my bank of the situation and they have asked that I write to you. This is a formal request to you please to refrain from using my bank account for future payments for the fortyfivesquarepoetry.com website but instead contact the current editors for future payments.

The email of the 2015 student team is as registered for the site. However, please would you reply to me, Narayani L Guibarra, at (email visible only to moderators and staff).

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hello there!

The email address you provided isn’t affiliated with a WordPress.com account, or any upgrade for the site: http://fortyfivesquarepoetry.com/. Because of this, I cannot send account information to that address.

The new administrator for the site must change the credit card information. But, to put your mind at rest, and to assure that your card won’t be charged in the future, I’ve removed the auto renew feature for the domain upgrade. When the domain comes up for renewal next year, they will have to manually enter their credit card for the payment.

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much.

    Hi there

Thank you for this reply and for removing the auto renew setting.

However, to set my mind completely at rest that there is no possibility of a payment being taken from my bank in future, I would be most grateful if you would please expunge my bank account details. I am aware that this is possible from the following forum topic https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/remove-credit-card-details-for-initial-upgrade

Please confirm to me once this is done.

    Thank you in advance.
