How to protect a post so it's only visible to a non-member of blog?

    I have an image that is meant as a gift to a friend, but it’s like a birthday card that doesn’t really fit the overall look of my blog, so I’d rather not make it public. BD cards are transient things anyway… Is there a way for just one friend to view a post w/o being an associate editor of my blog? I know how to Password Protect, would that work? I realize it would be best if I could just email it to her, but she has never divulged her email address and doesn’t use Facebook or Twitter, etc.

    Password Protect would probably be your best and simplest bet, but be sure to make it a ‘page’ rather than a ‘post’ so that the title won’t show up in your blog archive or on your home page.

    If your menus are set to automatically include new pages, you may need to edit your menu to remove the new page as well.

    Next problem: how to give her the link and password if you don’t have her digital contacts!

    Yes…LOL…some people are funny about such things…I think she trusts me by now, but I still don’t have her email address. And she prefers NOT to have any kind of links posted in comments at her blog… I understand wanting to be a private person (i am too, to a certain extent) but things like this just make life more complicated than it needs to be…

    If it’s a birthday card, then you could just make a post that there is a birthday surprise for one of your readers (I suppose she/he would not appreciate her/his name published, but you could say, “You know who you are!”) and give the link to the non-menu page where you post the card. That is, if you don’t care if other readers also see the page via the link.

    Who knows, may be a birthday for someone else as well!

    But I’m wondering if she/he might see it as a little creepy-stalking sort of behaviour, especially if it’s directed at only the one person. I know I would be put off if someone I didn’t know well posted such a thing online revealing my birthday. That is, of course, only my opinion and others may react differently.
