How to publish without it being displayed on home
-
I want to publish articles, but only have some of them appear on the home page. These non front-page articles I would still like to be viewable in catagories.
Is this possible?
-
Sure. Give them a date that’s sufficiently far in the past for them not to be in your first 10 entries. On the Write Post page, there’s an option to the right of the editing box that says ‘Publish Immediately’. Click on edit and you can choose any date you like. Then, so long as you give them the right category tag, they’ll be visible just as you want.

Rosclarke,
The issue is that we want the news to be current and accurate to date, we just don’t think some things are newsworthy of the front page. We have 50 posts per day. We would like to send most them just into catagories and have the correct date, and have only certian posts displayed on the home page.
-
Well, why wouldn’t my suggestion work for you? The ones you want on the front page can be published at the right time/date; the ones you don’t can be given an older time/date so they won’t appear on the home page but they will be available through the categories.
-
If you don’t want an article on the front page you’ll need to back date it
here at wordpress.COM there is no getting around this any other way so rosclarke,
was correct & accurate to your matter. As for internal categories please refer to this
Manual Internal Category Link
You’ll need to create a page & manually add the link to the page
The link is wrote like this
[http://yourblogname.wordpress.com/category/category name here/]
without the ->[]Here is a working example.
http://teckline.wordpress.com/category/howto/”>http://teckline.wordpress.com/category/howto/ -
Because then when people go to a catagory, the dates are inaccurate, as news is sorted by date. That isn’t viable for a news blog: home page posts from x days back will always trump current catagory-only news.
-
I’m not hosting this at wordpress.com. I’ve got wordpress hosted on my own server, so I can edit any code I like. Backdating won’t work because that is in opposition to the essence of a news blog, frustrating users by displaying valid news as expired news.
-
I also forgot to mention that if you have a space in a category word
you’ll need to use this – in replacement for the space between the words.Example
original
[http://yourblogname.wordpress.com/category/category name here/]Modified
[http://yourblogname.wordpress.com/category/category-name-here/] -
If you don’t have a wordpress.com blog then you’re in the wrong place. Go and ask at the wordpress.org forums.
-
Sorry you’re in the wrong forum this is WordPress.COM
you need WordPress.ORG -> http://wordpress.org/support/WordPress.com or WordPress.org ? The difference.

does this mean everytime i post, it’ll come out in home? i wanted to make a main page and several other pages after that, with each page having its own categories. is that possible?
-
Not the way you intend, but in fact yes.
Just make your posts and have them come up on the main page and use categories. Then put the category widget in your sidebar. That way, when people click on the category they’ll see only posts in that category; category pages are generated on the fly.
If you want several completely separate pages that look and work like blogs, what you need is several different blogs.
