How to push down entire site content without losing all media links

    Dear support,
In the past, each time I’ve moved a page around, I’ve lost all the links to the media files associated with that page! (which seems odd to me but I’m resigned to this being how it is)
I’d like to now create a new page now, for example, called ‘EMPLOYEES’, and push all the site content (except the root) under EMPLOYEES without losing all the media links that took so long to establish.
This way, I could have my web site root, an EMPLOYEE page (with all the existing site content below it), and later I can add CUSTOMER pages for customers. Does this make sense?

If so, can you please advise?
    thank you!

I’m not sure what you mean by this, but I see a lot of empty pages on your site, so there might be something about the way you are moving content that is different from what the software is designed to do.

Could you describe the process you go through to move pages?

Once I understand this piece, we will have better luck working through the rest of your questions.

Hi Liz, Thank you so much for your quick reply! Please let me clarify.

1st clarification: Many pages ‘look blank’ because their actual media is already pushed to their child pages. For example: root –> ARTWORK –> JPEGS –> KYLE_FINAL_JPEGS. That last page (KYLE_FINAL_JPEGS) will show you all the associated media in slide show format.

2nd clarification: My experience has been that if I attempted to ‘move’ a page (say the KYLE_FINAL_JPEGS page just mentioned) to anywhere else in the website hierarchy, that page would LOSE all of its connections / links / associations (I don’t know what the proper term is) to the original media (that slide show that I referred to with the JPEGS) that was there to begin with.

As a result, each time I’ve moved pages around on my site that have had media associated with them, I’ve had to re-associate ALL the media over and over again. Clearly I must be doing something wrong, but maybe not…I’m not sure….maybe this is just how it is.

This is why I’m asking the question here: if I wanted to take ALL the pages in my site (except for the root) and ‘push’ all of them under a new level of hierarchy (a new parent page) called EMPLOYEES, is there a ‘right’ way of doing this which wouldn’t break all those media associations that I just referenced above? If not, I can do this re-architecting; it just means I’ll have to re-associate all my media files as well (which is rather tedious unfortunately).

I hope I was able to clarify…if not, please let me know. Thank you for your help!
    Best Regards,

I think I understand better now.

If you want to actually move pages in the hierarchy, that will absolutely break the connections, and there isn’t really anything to be done about that.

If the problem is that you want to display the pages differently in your menu, that’s absolutely possible without all the blank pages. You can do that with custom menus. Here’s more on how that works:

    Menus

Could you make that work instead?

    Hi Liz,
Thank you very much; I will definitely take a look at that – great advice, and you’ve answered my main question as well — which is unfortunate that page moves break the connections :-( but at least now I know I’m not doing the moves incorrectly.
Really appreciate your quick and thoughtful responses!
    Best Regards,
