How to put a link in a post or page that shows the title/description rather than

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to put a link on a page but instead of showing the description or post name it shows the url address? I have seen other blogs that have the title of the item which is being linked rather than the url address. Just really learning how to get this together and it’s the little things that I have problems with. :o)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Cindy,

I’m not quite sure what you’re looking for in this case. Could you maybe point me to a page that is doing exactly what you’re looking for so that I have a better idea? Sorry if I’m being dense!

    Thanks in advance.

    31 Days: Day 2 Reflections

This blog has what I am talking about and I’m sorry my question was dense… When I try to put in a link it shows the URL address but I would prefer it to show the title. Hope this helps, if not let me know.

Ohhh! I see what you mean. I was just confused by the way you asked. I sincerely apologize for that.

We have a tool which will help you create a link saying whatever you like. It looks like a bit of chain in the toolbar of the visual editor, and we have a help article which will walk you through using it:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

Let me know if you run in to any troubles using it!

I have another question…thanks and sorry for being so dense but…if you go to http://mlsgregg.com/blog/31-days-jesus/, this blogger has like a table of contents that redirect her readers to the post she is creating for that day.

How do you do that? I have searched and searched and don’t know how…I am one confused old lady!

No need to apologize at all! Everyone has to start some time and somewhere!

The page which you pointed me to was created by hand by this blogger. They went to their Dashboard and then to Pages >> Add New and created a page for this table of contents. Then as they have gone through and added the blog posts, they grabbed the link to each post and come back here and turned each title in to a link in the way which is described in the article which I gave to you earlier.

Now if you would like this to be the first page that everyone comes to when they visit your site, you can! You just have to make some changes in your site’s settings once you’ve created the page. You can follow this help article:

    Set the Homepage

If anything goes awry, please let me know!
