How to put in DIRECT LINK on sidebar under NEW title

For numerous hours I have been trying to figure out how to #1 add another heading to my side bar. I finally was able to click on (add category from the widgets) and was able to rename it to PHOTOGRAPHERS but it also carried over everything that was under my “real” category heading ..I also tried adding the “text” widget but typed in web addressses and it still didn’t work plus you can’t give a list of individual photographers names. my additional heading (along with archive, category…) which is “Photographers” I would like to list under this heading direct links to others web sites. I don’t want to have every link have to go to a page on the blog roll and then click to the link to the photographers web.
I see other wordpress bloggers doing this direct link to websites from their side bar and I just can’t figure it out for the life of me!
for example:
PHOTOGRAPHERS
*johndoephotography (when you would click on this name it goes directly to John Does web site not a post.

My suggestion would be to create a “link” category called “photographers” and then put the names and the links to them into the links widget. The links widget will separately list links by category.
Click on my username and you will see in the right hand column, my links widget. The first bunch of links are assigned to the “blogroll” category, and the second bunch are assigned to the “links” category and the third bunch are assigned to the “wordpressing” category.

Hi timethief and thesacredpath….yes sacred your links section is exactly what I want so I will go thru what both of you have referred and see if I can figure it out…My brain is done for tonight, back to it tomorrow!
