How to put my blog offline

  Hello. I am trying to take my blog offline temporarily because I need to do important updates. I know there are plugins available to do this, but for some reason, the plugin option does not exist in this theme. Is there a way within this theme to temporarily take it off line? Thank you.

  There is no FTP access to our free hosted WorPress.com blogs and we bloggers can’t install plugins for security reasons. http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/ Also note that there is no upgrade you can purchase that allows FTP access and the ability to install plugins. Only those with WordPress.org installs can use plugins http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
