How to put picture of me on my blog

  Hi everyone! I’m new to this.. and have read many forum posts however I cant work out how to put a picture of myself on the main page. Not a picture as in the avator that you see around WordPress.com. And not a picture for a post. I mean a picture on the side bar underneath my name… I read on someones forum that you can use the text widget however how do I insert a photo into this? It wont let me paste! Thank you!!
