How to put posts into their respective categories.
-
Hi all!
I’m running a music blog so I’m dealing with posts across different topics such as reviews, new releases, podcasts, feature pieces etc. And so I want to sort each post into it’s respective category.
Problem is this:
I want to display the different categories at the banner of my home page to make it easy for people to find what they’re looking for and it seems you must create pages to do this. I did this and then created categories to correspond to the pages but the posts aren’t going into the pages when they’ve been categorised. An empty page doesn’t look so good so I need to get this sorted. Here’s the blog for more reference: https://thenewpollutionireland.wordpress.com/
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Category page urls need to have /category/ inside of them.
For example, right now the url for reviews is: https://thenewpollutionireland.wordpress.com/reviews/ which is linking to a blank page.
If you change the url to: https://thenewpollutionireland.wordpress.com/category/reviews/ it will show the proper category page for reviews.
If you do the same for the rest of the links of the menu, everything will work as you intend.
Hope this helps.

Are you trying to make categories show on the menu from wordpress.com or word press plugin?
-
I was originally trying through wordpress.com but if there’s a better way to go about it via plugins I’m all ears?

You don’t have to use plugins. Click on my site. Go to settings. Click on writing. You will see a section that says categories. Add all the category titles you need. Leave description blank. Save.
Now go to Blog post. Hit add. On the top right, click the gear icon and you will see category sections you created. Choose your category. Publish. Do one for each category.
Finally. Go back to settings. Click customize. Click the man site menu until you get to. Click menu. Click add item. Look for your category. You can slide each category under whichever page you have created or drag to the main menu. N order to remove the “category” title off the post you have to use the paid version. That option should be under where you are. If it doesn’t disappear then you will have to download css plugins or some other kind

Hi thenewpollutionireland,
you can easily add custom links to your menu by going to:
Customize -> Menus -> Select the menu your site is displaying -> Add items -> Custom links
Using Custom links you can set the url and the link text.
You can find more info about Custom menus and links here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Hope this helps!
