How to reactivate custom domain name instead of the free domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

I created an account with WordPress (last year in March 2016) and obtained a free domain name, but immediately upgraded my domain name to reflect .com instead of wordpress.com. I totally forgot to pay to keep the .com in 03/2017. Now, my website has reverted to wordpress.com. I attempted to get that same .com domain name again, but it’s showing that it is no longer available because someone else has it, but I’m the one who has that .com, but it won’t allow me to pay for it to access it, again. Please advise. Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

    Hi boundkeeperboyz,

boundkeeperboyz.com expired on 2017-03-27 and is currently in the redemption period:

    Domain Expiration

You can still try to recover the domain but you will need to pay an $80 redemption fee in addition to the regular domain renewal cost ($18).

If you agree to these costs I can generate a payment request for the amount. Once that has been paid, we can start the process of trying to get your domain back. Should the recovery fail after you’ve paid the redemption fee, that fee is refunded in full.

If you do not want to pay the fee, you can wait until the domain is released but you may not be able to get it back if it is purchased at auction during this time.

Please let me know which option you prefer.

    Thanks!

Thank you guys for your response(s). Is there any way I can find out when the domain is being released in order to promptly retrieve it? That would be my very first option, but if you guys are not aware of when it will be released for purchase, I would definitely want to pay the cost of the redemption fee of $80.00 plus the regular domain renewal cost of $18.00. Please let me know regarding my first option. Thank you!

    Hi boundkeeperboyz,

Is there any way I can find out when the domain is being released in order to promptly retrieve it?

The length of time varies so I’m afraid I can’t tell you when the domain will be available again. Also, they are released on a first-come, first-served basis so there is a chance someone else could purchase it before you do.

I would definitely want to pay the cost of the redemption fee of $80.00 plus the regular domain renewal cost of $18.00.

I’ve sent a payment request to the email address on your account. Please let me know if you don’t receive it.

    Thanks!
