How to reactivate social icons on main menu

  • Unknown's avatar

    I removed social icons from the main page, and now I cannot get them back (though they do show on all the other pages). They used to be next to the main menu on the main page. When I reactivate the social menu in template menu options, they now all show as W. I don’t seem to be able to get them as a widget either.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

    This may not be a CSS Customization issue. Did you previously add CSS code to block the social links menu from displaying?

    I removed social icons from the main page, and now I cannot get them back (though they do show on all the other pages).

    I don’t find a social links menu displayed on any static page, archives page, or post on the site https://organickametoda.wordpress.com.

    they now all show as W.

    If the social links menu displays only a string of WordPress.com logos (W’s), that would suggest that the items in the menu do not represent social links. For example, if the menu items link to pages or posts, then the you’ll see the W’s instead of social icons. If the menu has no items, then nothing would display.

    Did you delete the menu that was displayed previously? If so, then you’ll have to create the social links menu again, as described in the How do I set up a social links menu? section of the Add a Social Links Menu support page.

    Hi @pemadrolma, open your front page in the page editor and in the Sharing section at the right, reactivate the Sharing and Likes. You have them turned off for that page in the page editor.

    @thesacredpath,

    She said,

    To me that describes the a social links menu. That’s where it displays on Libre 2.

    Then she said,

    When I reactivate the social menu in template menu options, they now all show as W.

    If I place (for example) links to pages in the social menu, then each item in the menu displays as a WordPress.com logo, the W’s she refers to.

    @musicdoc1, I should have gone to bed. You have it covered with recreating the menu. @pemadrolma only has the primary menu, no others currently.

    @musicdoc1, @thesacredpath, thank you for trying to help. I still haven’t figured it out:
    Yes, as @thesacredpath says, I only have the Primary Menu, but would like the Social links menu activated for sharing. On my other blogs, when I go to “Customize Themes”, the “Menu” section offers “Primary” and “Social” options. Not on this blog (organickametoda), though. Only Primary menu shows, there is no Social.

    @musicdoc1, the W logos appear when I tick “social menu” in Display Location in Primary Menu in Customize section. I have ticked it so that you can see what I mean. But now I understand it won’t bring the social menu to life.

    @thesacredpath, in “configure” ->”Sharing”, the “Sharing Buttons” have been active.

    Any ideas how I can get the “Social menu” appear bellow the “Primary” in the “Customizing -> Menu” section?

    Thank you.

    @pemadrolma,

    the W logos appear when I tick “social menu” in Display Location in Primary Menu in Customize section.

    Thanks. I was able to replicate that on a test site, by having no social links menu created. That’s precisely what I thought was happening. If you previously had a social links menu created and displayed on this site, then it looks like you deleted the menu at some point. Therefore, to make a social links menu appear again you’ll have to create one before trying to display one. How to do so is described in the How do I set up a social links menu? section of the Add a Social Links Menu support page.

    On my other blogs, when I go to “Customize Themes”, the “Menu” section offers “Primary” and “Social” options.

    On the site with Libre 2 applied, at Customize > Menus > Menu Locations, you should see two drop-down menus labeled Header and Social. Those are the two menu locations, but you evidently have only one menu created. If you’ve ticked both “Header” and “Social Menu” at Display Locations for your primary menu, then both of the drop-down menus at Menu Locations will be set on the primary menu.

    @pemadrolma,

    Amendment to my previous two posts addressed to you:
    Even if you have a social links menu created, it will not display unless it is the menu selected from the options in the drop-down menu labeled Social Menu at Customize > Menus > Menu Locations.
