How to reassign username to new account?

    I want to use my favorite username on my currently active account/email address, but I was previously using the username on an old account. I went into the old account to delete the username so I could change to it on my new account, but now when I try to switch to the username on either account I’m getting a “this username already exists!” message. (It doesn’t; I’ve deleted it from my old account and it hasn’t been claimed by anyone else since then.) I’m wondering if this is a matter of waiting for some kind of reset to happen, or if I’ve messed something up?

    Unfortunately, once a username is deleted, it’s gone and cannot be reclaimed by anyone.

    To quote the support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username:

    Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use.
