How to reblog an older post on the same site
-
I have some older posts published when I first started with Wordpre
ress and I’d like to reblog them on the same site, update a little with new images maybe. How can I do that, copy and paste? Is that the only way?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I would not recommend copying and pasting older content and republishing it. That would cause duplicate posts and possible problems with search engines.
There are several ways you can refresh and highlight older site content. Timethief another forum volunteer has some suggestions here: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2014/01/09/refresh-older-blog-content/

Thanks for the link. Am I right in thinking all I have to do is get the post in the editor in dashboard, make the changes and give it a new publication date then publish?

and give it a new publication date then publish
That will change the URL of your post and search engines will send visitors to 404 Page Not Found errors. Not something you want to do.
One technique I used on my personal site was to tag certain posts with a special tag (like “popular” or “myfavs”) and then feature that tag in my site’s sidebar via an RSS widget.

Thanks for the page about links widgets and sticky posts, all interesting stuff and There’s some helpful things there. Now I realise there’s possibly something wrong with my question. It would seem that if I want to ‘re-post’ an old post, the simplest way is to copy the text into the editor, make any changes necessary, give it new images or whatever and give it a title – or the same title but marked: #2 and include text explaining that this has been reblogged with a link to the original. Then publish with the current date. Is this the only way?

I understand the thing about not changing the URL. Is there any function in WordPress that I can use to do the thing I’m describing in the last message? And thanks by the way, for your help…

Make a Post Sticky – that brings it to the top of the list – should be at the top of your opening page. Unstick if after a while and stick a new one – no changing dates, copy / Paste etc.
-
I would suggest just making the post Sticky. People who’ve read it before won’t be so confused by seeing it again, and then once you are done with it you can just Un-sticky it.

-
Also consider using the More Tag – that will make your front page easier to navigate

Yes, I see what you mean, good idea. Before I try this, is there an opportunity to see it in the dashboard editor so I can insert a sentence saying it’s been reblogged & etc. ?
-
Just put a note in it – maybe at the top “Updated February 8, 2014”
I would just leave it at that, don’t use the term “Reblog” since a Sticky Post is not a Reblog. Don’t confuse folks. If one of your regular visitors remembers the Sticky Post, if they see the “Updated” that tells then that new info has been added.
You could also use a Links Widget in the Sidebar – call it Oldies but Goodies, Updated from the Archives or something like that with two or three Posts in it and rotate them around

You be welcome & good luck
I use the Links Widget on my site to raise awareness of some older Posts that I want people to be able to see and find easily –
