How to recreate home page to display posts

Ive tried following advice to restore posts to the home page, & this works OK, but not if you click on the home button. I’ve tried the advice to go to Settings >> Reading, but I don’t get the option to select a page for the posts. The problem is that when re-setting up the home page, it calls it home2, but home2 isn’t included in the url when I click on the home button. there doesn’t seem to be anyway to remedy this. I’m not sure how the original home page got deleted, but it wasn’t in the trash. Don’t want to have to import from posterous all over again, but need to fix this problem. 1) You don’t have to re-import anything, because your problem isn’t the content, it’s the top menu only.
2) You are confused because of the distinction between static pages (the ones you create in Pages > Add New, or edit in Pages > All Pages) and dynamic pages (the ones that are created on the fly and display a number of posts), and because the top menu tabs can be links to either type of page.
3) Some themes have a built-in Home link in their regular menu and some (including the one you’re using) don’t have such a link. In the second case you need to create it yourself, but you don’t create it in Pages > Add New, because the Home tab isn’t a link to a static page, it’s a link to the blog front (main blog address).
4) So first you need to go to Pages > All Pages and trash the “Home” page you have created.
5) What you’ll do next depends on whether the top menu I’m seeing is the regular menu of the theme or a custom menu. Did you change the order of the tabs by assigning order numbers to your pages or by creating a custom menu in Appearance > Menus?
