How to redirect (mt) domain to wordpress.com blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’d like to forward traffic from my domain letmecolor.com (@mediatemple.com) to my blog https://letmecolor.wordpress.com. But I can’t find the right tutorial somehow. I hope somebody can tell me how to set this up. Thanks in advance, Frank

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello,

You can map your existing domain to your site. You will need to upgrade your WordPress.com plan either to Personal, Premium or Business, each plan comes with one free domain credit which you can use for mapping (or to create a new domain).

Here are the steps to map your domain, there is also a link to upgrade your plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  • Hi there,

Domain mapping would be the best way to do this if you want your WordPress.com site to appear at your mediatemple domain.

If you don’t want your WordPress.com site to appear at the domain, but just want to redirect traffic, you need to set up a 301 redirect at your domain provider’s end to your WordPress.com site’s URL.

    Hello ackaeser,

Thanks for your info and link. This was very helpful, although I am not so willing to upgrade my free plan. I’ve closed my letmecolor.com coloring pages website since the income dropped below the costs. Also because other websites kept stealing my images, and I chose not to fight that anymore, since that costs too much time, and led nowhere. Unfortunatly. But since I still have my drawings, I chose to make them publicly available via my first weblog-love WordPress.com. But since I don’t intend to add more drawings in the future, I’d like to keep the blog as it is now. And that also means that I am not willing to get myself a paid plan.

So thanks again for your effort, but I will keep things as they are now.

    Kind regards, Frank

    Hi kokkieh,

Thanks for your input, but nowadays I only have (and will keep) the domain name; I don’t have the web site itself anymore. And I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) I need more than just a domain name to set up a 301 redirect. So in that case, i must conclude that it’s best to keep things as they are right now.

    Thanks again for your effort!

    Regards, Frank

  • Hi Frank,

I completely understand if you don’t want to upgrade.

For a redirect, your WordPress.com site’s URL should be enough, but please check with your domain provider exactly what they require and let me know.

You’re welcome Frank, and thank you @kokkieh for your input as well.

    Hi @kokkieh,

The past two weeks I sorted that out with the support team @(mt), and you are right. They helped me to point the namesevers to the right direction, and after some troubleshooting, everything is working now. So when you type http://www.letmecolor.com in your browser, you will end up at letmecolor.wordpress.com.

    So, to everyone who has helped me to solve this, @kokkieh, @ackaeser and the support team at https://mediatemple.net;

    THANK YOU!

    :)

    Frank
