How to regain admin rights to site

  Hello,

  My daughter’s school has a WP page — https://ysmontessorischool.wordpress.com/ — that was created many years ago by a parent that is no longer at the school.

  My wife and I have volunteered to update the site, but nobody can remember any login information for the site.

  Is there a way to determine a valid user name and reset the password? Is there a point of contact for WordPress.com to help with this process?

  Worst case scenario, is there a way to have WordPress.com take down the current site so we can make a new one from scratch?

  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  Hi there,

  It is nice to know that you have volunteered to update the school’s website.
  But as this website was created by another user, it is not possible to gain access to this website.

  Please see if you can find the parent who created the site originally with the school’s help.
  That user can then transfer the site to your WordPress.com account and you can continue building it.

  There is an email on the website [redacted], it is a possibility that this email is used by that parent. You can mail them and ask for their help.

  No, it is not possible to take down the website. Only the user who has created the website can delete the site.

  You can rest that account’s password and have all involved check their email addresses. Otherwise, we would need one of the proofs mentioned here:

  Thank you, both of you, for your suggestions!

  I did email the address listed on the site, but haven’t heard back yet.

  I can do a bit more digging with the school’s teachers as well to see if either of them have any information we can use to regain access.
