How to Register a domain that is a current second domain on a wordpress site?

  When I added a domain to my wordpress site, I owned the registered domain of “artbydesmond.com. It was originally on an ix web hosting account which I dropped. WordPress has allowed for it to be used as “artbydesmond.wordpress.com” so I was not worried. I’d like to register it and keep it at wordpress, and will gladly pay for the $18.00 registration. I did not want to retain those pages anyway, and am confused about the “domain mapping” as I did not want to connect to ix. Anyway, my registration of that domain expired this past October 1. I found no topic choice for this solution, other than adding new domain, which is NOT NEW as it is part of my blogsite. Can I register it through WordPress? Do I have to upgrade at WordPress to register the domain? Does that make it a different sign in site on wordpress?

  I’d contacted and posted about this in the past, but now, since the “artbydesmond.com” domain has actually expired five days ago, I’d like to register it through wordpress. The above paragraph is my concern, sample of my ignorance, and questions of: Can I register it through WordPress? Do I have to upgrade at WordPress to register the domain? Does that make it a different sign-in site on wordpress?
