How to Register a New Domain Name

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me. I’d like to register my domain name, and I can see the web form where I enter all my details to register the domain. But do I have to do anything afterwards? I keep seeing all these discussions about domain mapping and DNS! I don’t want to get it wrong, could someone please advise? Thanks.

Here are the step by step instructions https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/ You need to buy domain mapping too. It’s pretty simple if you do it all at once, actually. It’s only if you want to point the domain to somewhere else that things get a little complicated, but even then it’s not THAT complicated.

Hi! Thanks for the quick response. The steps do look quite simple but I’m still trying to figure out which of the options I should be going with:
“1.Register a new domain through WordPress.com and have it connect automatically – if you just want a custom domain as quickly and easily as possible.
2. Map an existing domain (one you already own) to your WordPress.com blog – if you already have a domain that you registered and purchased elsewhere.
3. Map a subdomain (for a domain with an existing website) to your WordPress.com blog – if you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com).”
I think it would be option 1 because I don’t currently own any domains. Is that correct and do I still need to buy domain mapping?

Yes, that is correct and yes you need domain mapping too; it should prompt you at the correct time to buy it.
