How to remove a blog from a category or vice versa?

Ciao all.
Im wondering how to delelte a category that I have on a post. I have gone through all the steps I think are possible but when I click update it remains the same. I want this post to have no catergory, and have my poetry in a category. I have two posts both are in the poetry category. ok. I sure hope Im making sense.

We can edit any post and remove any category
The Posts -> Categories page in your dashboard displays all your categories and shows the name, description, and number of posts belonging to each category. If you move your mouse over a category a set of options will appear, allowing you to edit, quick-edit, or delete that category: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#managing-categories
You can set or change the default category
A default category (“uncategorized”) will be assigned to published posts if you don’t specify one. The name of the default category can be changed under Settings > Writing in your dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#setting-the-default-category
When it comes to sorting the works of two authors a better approach maybe to create a category for Poetry and then create two subcategories – one for each author’s name. Provided the author’s assign each post they create to their name category, when visitors click the name they will find all posts by that author in the blog.

This is most frustrating. I’ve gone into “posts’ and into catergory but I haven’t thebutton to delete. It only says, edit and quick edit.

Ok, when I go into ‘edit post’ I see that it IS checked under poetry (which I do not want) then when I uncheck it and hit update nothing happens. Well, it updates to the same, no changes.

I think each Post needs to have a Category so try assigning a different Category to that Post.

Well, I’ve gone and deleted a post in hopes the category would go away, no such luck. How can I delete this category from my post? Im really frustrated now and am going to go for a walk! Someone please help this newbie.

Posts have to have at least one category assigned to them. If you do not assign a category, the wordpress will automatically assign the “default” category that is set in your dashboard at settings > writing.
