How to Remove Ads Without Paying for Premium
-
I already have a domain name and just want to pay for removal of ads. It costs $13 to map my domain name and paying for premium seems to be paying for a domain twice. How do I use my domain and remove ads without paying for mapping my domain and also paying for a premium account? Thanks much.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A domain mapping upgrade is for exactly what it states and nothing else. Both of my blogs are on their own domains and have No Ads upgrades. Your account was opened before Sept 1, 2014 and you can purchase an separate No Ads upgrade. There is no means of removing ads placed by WordPress.COM on your by other than purchasing the No Ads upgrade.

Thanks for your response. I’m actually helping a friend who is new, so the ‘no ads upgrade’ won’t apply. However, it appears that a refund is possible if a person gets the mapping upgrade and also the premium upgrade, but I do wish the site made that clear as it looks like the user pays twice. Again, thanks for your help; I now have a better grasp of the options.

I wish you had said that up front.
Exactly which blog are you referring to? What is the URL?
And, which username account registered it?Bottom line: If the username account was registered after September 1st, 2014 then a premium upgrade purchase will be required. Staff can make billing adjustments but they need to deal with the blog’s actual registered owner.

My apologies. I hadn’t realized the time dependency and had thought it was a general question. However, I now have all the info I need to help my friend, thanks to you. You were most helpful and I appreciate it.

Hi davidfromnewyork,
Just to clarify, since domain mapping is included in the WordPress.com Premium Plan your domain mapping upgrade will be extended for a second year if you purchase Premium. This prevents you from being charged twice.
In other words, if you bought domain mapping in June of 2015 and updated to Premium in July the Premium Plan would expire in 2016 and the mapping in 2017.

Thank you for adding more info. I appreciate it. However, I would think most people would prefer an adjusted rate, as it isn’t really a cost saving; a person dropping the premium plan would likely also be dropping use of wordpress.com. With an adjusted fee (somewhat less than the premium fee plus mapping fee) persons who prefer to keep their domains registered separately would have an easier decision to make. Regardless, I do appreciate your response and hope the powers at wordpress.com revisit the plans to see if a third plan couldn’t be easily implemented. Thanks for listening.
