    Hi there!

As you discovered, that can be modified by using CSS code, which is only available on Premium or higher plans:

Most sites on WordPress.com use a shared environment, meaning that they all run the same software. This is great because it allows us to update millions of sites at the same time. It means we can fix bugs or offer new features very quickly, which is a win for you as users.

Running multiple sites on the same software can also be dangerous. If we aren’t careful, one site can be used to take down the entirety of WordPress.com which is why we limit what you can do on a free WordPress.com site.

    I hope that clarifies things!

    Hi @staff-heroponriki

I see, this makes sense. To remove this I need premium.
Although when you say “which is why we limit what you can do on a free WordPress.com site“, having ugly ‘author name and post date’ at the bottom of ‘portfolio posts’ shouldnt really lock all users into having this…

If I buy my own domain, can I then unlock the feature to use CSS to remove author name and post date ?
I’m rather confused on the pricing.
It says if I buy the .com domain, it’s “free for 1 year £16/year“.
When I select that and look at prices, it then shows monthly plans? equating to more than £16/year…?

Where did this £16/year come from?

    Hi there,

I see you have Heiwa theme activated on your site, which is a block theme. Besides using CSS for which a Premium or higher plan is required, you may also hide the author name/date from the pages/posts by editing the template from the site editor with the free plan on your site.

To do so, go to My Site >> Appearance >> Editor, edit the Single Template and remove the Author and Date block under Post Meta Icons as explained here:

    WP
Templates » Edit the Single Template
    in WordPress.com Support
    6 min read
The Single template controls the layout of individual blog posts on your site. When you change this template, the change will reflect on all your posts, ensuring a consistent experience for visitors browsing through your blog. This guide will show you when and how to edit the Single template and some common changes you wish to make. ✅ This guide focuses on how to edit templates

Similarly, you would want to edit the page template as well.

    A huge thank you @varshasc

This fixed it and it’s now removed.
I was aware of this Editor with semplates as I had to fix my own-created footer not showing on all pages, but didnt think of your helpful tips.

    Thanks!

It says if I buy the .com domain, it’s “free for 1 year £16/year“.

I think it actually says if you buy a plan you can register a custom domain free for the first year. Year two you pay to renew the plan and also pay to renew the domain.
