How to remove files from gallery without removing them from media

I have a blog that contains two videos and a gallery. The first problem is that when I upload any of the above, they show up in both the media file and the gallery file and I only want selected pictures in the gallery. When I try to clean up the gallery, I only succeed in eliminating them from both gallery and media. How can I separate them so that only selected pics are in the gallery and the others remain in the media file and why do they automatically get entered into both?
Second question. One of the videos is not loading after it tells me it is formatting. it says 40 minutes and I wait longer than that but when I try to load it, it only says “Delete” and not upload>

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • When you upload a video or image on the Edit Post/Page screen, it’ll be attached to that Post or Page.

If you’re trying to insert an image gallery into a post/page, it’ll include all attached images by default.

If you want an image — or any supported file — to be unattached, you’ll want to upload an image from Media -> Add New in the left hand menu.

For images that are already attached to a post/page, you can use the exclude option in the Gallery shortcode.

I’m sorry for the inconveneince. What’s the URL of the video in your Media Library? I’ll be happy to take a look.

I tried the unattached code but it does not seem to work,
    The code shows [gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="ID"]
so I changed it to [gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="ID" (exclude="7773")] but the picture still shows up. What am I doing wrong?

  • The HTML in that post is currently:

    [gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="ID"]

Can you update the gallery code so it looks like this?

    [gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="ID" exclude="7773"]

That worked. Thank you. I still have the problem with not being able to load the video.
The ogg file URL is http://videos.videopress.com/x5cdXfSA/pard-plant-program4_fmt1.ogv
    the URL is https://pondblog2011.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=7730&action=edit
It is still not letting me load it into the blog and only shows “Delete”

Hi there, sorry about the issues with the video. I’m going to look into this some more and update you once done, thanks for your patience!

BTW, I included the parenthesis in the code because the example in the Gallery instructions show them.

    exclude

The gallery will exclude specific images

    comma separated attachment IDs* (exclude=”24,30,43″)

    N/A

  • Thanks for bringing that to our attention! I’ll update the guide.

Re: the video issue. The original file did not work well with VideoPress, so I converted it to .mp4 format and replaced the original video shortcode in your post with the newly converted video, which plays fine. I hope that works for you, and please let us know if you need further assistance regarding this!

Thank you so much for helping out with this problem. I have since uploaded another video in the .mp4 format and this one is just fine. Again, thanks. I couldn’t ask for better service.
