Dear timethief, no I don’t have the custom design upgrade and I was wondering how I can remove it without needing to buy the custom design upgrade.
-
I’ve noticed it myself. Unless Theme Staff chooses to get rid of it I’m afraid we have reached a dead end.

Here at wordpress.com, you cannot do that without the Custom Design upgrade. I would expect that your site is not hosted here (partly based on your mention of “child theme”) but self-hosted using the software from wordpres.ORG. That means the correct support forum for you is http://wordpress.org/support/ . These forums are for those that are hosted here on the wordpress.com hosting service.

Sorry correct:

To remove the gray line that you want, you need to pay, so you can edit the CSS of your theme. Without having paid you can’t remove it.
