How to remove 'just another wordpress blog'?
-
Hi Chaps,
Just a couple of very quick questions cos I don’t want to do anything particularly fancy with the custom CSS, and have nearly completed the small changes I wanted to make.
But I’m stuck on these two items which prevent it looking finished…
1) Remove the stuff above the header image completely – namely the ‘SOUND DESIGN ARTICLES – just another wordpress blog’ text. I just want to get rid of all of that and have the image at the top of the page (or at least near the top)
2) I’ve changed ‘background-color’ satisfactorily to cover all elements except two annoying vertical bars of white running up and down the hieght of the page either side of the content. I can’t see how to get those to be the correct colour at all!
I will be very grateful if anyone knows the solution to these conundrums (and sorry for being a foolish newbie!)
Thanks in advance!
Oli

There are only two Volunteers who help with CSS editing and they will require the complete and clickable URL for the blog in question. They need to see it an they need to know which theme is being CSS edited.
Note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM. Be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/ Also see the resources and advice here > consult tutorials found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/#css-help

You’re welcome from me too. I posted devblog’s post link because the common mistake 98% of people who have the CSS upgrade make when modifying a theme is to paste the WHOLE theme’s CSS code in the CSS Editor.

For the white bars, you have to do the following:
#wrapper { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 transparent; }For the site title and tagline, go back to settings > general and add your site title back in and if you wish, include a tagline. This is so that search engines can see it. They cannot read the title from the image, and if they do not see it, they will discount your search engine ranking. The CSS below will hide the title and tagline from view, but the search engines will still be able to see it and the second bit will get rid of virtually all of the dead space above the header image.
#site-title, #site-description display:none; } #header { padding-top:0; } -
Cheers – really appreciate the help.
Hopefully this thread will help others too. That wrapper thing is subtle!
