How to remove menu Adelle theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    I would like to move the menu on the Adelle theme to the bottom of the pages. Is that possible?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Oops – one more question – is it possible to remove the pink spots at the top of the theme too?

  • Hi there, I’m not seeing Adelle running on wordstodeeds.com – did you decide to go with a different theme or do you still need any help with Adelle on a different site?

    I would like to move the menu on the Adelle theme to the bottom of the pages. Is that possible?

    Moving the menu in this way isn’t possible.

    is it possible to remove the pink spots at the top of the theme too?

    This custom CSS would do it:

    .site-container {
    	background: none;
    }

    Thanks for replying Kathryn. I have used the preview function because I don’t want to sŵap the theme if the menu issue can’t be resolved.

    It’s all the pages that are currently at the bottom : disclaimer, photo credits etc., which make an ugly large black block at the top.
    Can you think of a workaround to reduce the menu?

  • It’s a bit hard for me to visualize what you mean, but if you find you have too many items in your menu, could you create a custom menu with some submenu items, to reduce the amount of space it takes up?

    Would it be possible to upload a screenshot of what you see in the preview to help in troubleshooting?

    Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot:

    You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or PDF – in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.

    I’ve uploaded the screenshot Kathryn. What do you think?

  • OK, I see the issue!

    Creating a custom menu should solve the problem. Have a look at the guide here:

    Menus

    Add only the pages you want to appear in the menu, and remember you can tweak the menu label text as you like – it doesn’t have to match your page title. For example, instead of “Building bridges between academia and practice & between translators and legal professionals” you might want it to say simply “Building Bridges” in your menu, and so that’s the menu label text you would add.

    You might also want to group certain pages in a submenu, or put other pages in a custom menu widget instead of in the main menu. For example, things like the Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, and Linking Policy.

    Let me know how it goes!

    This sounds as if it could resolve things – thanks so much Kathryn. One last thing – if it all goes wrong, could I go back to the present theme?

  • You’re very welcome!

    One last thing – if it all goes wrong, could I go back to the present theme?

    Absolutely – you can always switch back to a theme you’ve used before. You may need to reset a few things, but you shouldn’t lose any data. Here are the things to watch out for after a theme switch:

    You have been fantastic Kathryn. Many many thanks.

  • My pleasure. :) Feel free to post again if you run into any trouble.

    Hi again Kathryn,
    I’ve taken the plunge, and I think it’s not looking too bad. Just a couple of hiccups:
    1) I created a custom menu widget for the disclaimer, legal notice etc., but it’s greyed out and I can’t seem to make it appear.
    2) I’d like to remove the black footer stripe – is that possible?
    3) Is there a way to make the header image less opaque? Maybe 70 or 80%?

  • Looking good indeed! I’ll address your questions separately.

    2) I’d like to remove the black footer stripe – is that possible?

    Do you mean the double horizontal line below each post on the blog? To hide that, try this:

    .hentry::after, body.single .content-area::after {
        border-bottom: none;
    }
    .hentry::after, .hentry footer::after, body.page .entry-content::after, body.single .content-area::after, body.single .site-content::after {
        display: none;
    }

    If you mean something else, could you explain in a little more detail where I can see it? Thanks!

  • 1) I created a custom menu widget for the disclaimer, legal notice etc., but it’s greyed out and I can’t seem to make it appear.

    I think we need to clarify how you want this custom menu to work: what you want the menu to display and where you want it to be displayed on your site.

    1) Right now, you have some widget visibility conditions on your custom menu widget so that it will only appears on these four specific pages:

    – Disclaimer
    – Linking policy
    – Privacy policy
    – Terms & conditions

    Screenshot: https://cloudup.com/c9BNqEVlENz

    When I go those pages, I do see your custom menu widget in the sidebar. For example:

    Linking policy

    2) What did you want to display in your custom menu? Right now you have a single link there, and it goes to this page:

    Building bridges between academia and practice & between translation, interpreting and legal practitioners

    Is that what you wanted? That page is already linked from your main menu.

    If you want different links to be displayed there, you need to create a new custom menu. After you create it, you can select your new menu from your custom menu widget.

    Let me know how it goes.

  • 3) Is there a way to make the header image less opaque? Maybe 70 or 80%?

    You could try something like this:

    .site-header img {
     opacity: 0.7;
    }

    You are fantastic Kathryn.

    Re 2) The black footer (I mean where “Blog at WordPress.com The Adelle Theme appears) has now become transparent, so it’s fine now. Is there any way I can add a link to “About me” in that footer?

    Re 3) It’s perfect – exactly what I wanted.

    Re 1) I have now created a new menu, and I’ve got the widget to display on the front page, but I can’t seem to get it to work on the individual post pages – I think you’ll see what I mean.

    Very last thing… Can I amend the header font to Lato or Lora?

    Thank you so much for making this a pleasurable switch rather than a nightmare! Really very much appreciated.

    OK, really the last question now. I have a sort of “logo” for the blog, my avatar, the Corinth Canal picture. If the readers like the new design, can I do an overall swap of all the places where it occurs for a new image? It appears in so many posts it would take an eternity to change them all. I know from feedback that people consult archive posts a lot, so it would be worth updating them.

  • Re 2) The black footer (I mean where “Blog at WordPress.com The Adelle Theme appears) has now become transparent, so it’s fine now. Is there any way I can add a link to “About me” in that footer?

    No, it’s not possible to add links there. You’d need to find a theme with a footer widget area to place links in the footer.

    Re 3) It’s perfect – exactly what I wanted.

    Great!

    Re 1) I have now created a new menu, and I’ve got the widget to display on the front page, but I can’t seem to get it to work on the individual post pages – I think you’ll see what I mean.

    If you’d like the custom menu widget to appear everywhere, you could just remove all the conditions and let it appear on all types of posts and pages.

    If you want it only to appear on the homepage and individual post pages, you’ll need to change your second condition from “Posts Page” (this means the blog page) to “Post type = Post.”

  • Very last thing… Can I amend the header font to Lato or Lora?

    Those two fonts aren’t currently available, but you could check out the others under the Headings menu in the Fonts section of the Customizer to see if there’s something else you like.

    Thank you so much for making this a pleasurable switch rather than a nightmare! Really very much appreciated.

    You’re very welcome!
