How to remove 'Nothing found' 'Ready to publish your first post' from front page

    I have been messing about with my blog for a few weeks now, and am lowly starting to publish bits and pieces and are reasonably happy with things, apart from a couple of issues..

    1) At the bottom of my page I have a large white area with ‘Nothing Found, ‘Ready to publish your first post? Get started here’ in the middle of it. I cannot for the life of me determine how to get rid of it.
    2) There is a large white column on the right hand side of my page that again, I cannot seem to get rid of.

    I’m hoping this is a straight forward thing to fix, so would appreciate any offers to help me out.
