how to remove permanently deleted media that still exist in (out)dated folders

Example of issue: src image path: …arcbornechapter.files.wordpress.com/–> 2014 <–/09/
How do I permanently remove all outdated ‘date’ folders and their image contents prior to 2016; permanently deleting image files from ‘media’ did not do??? Is there a file manager?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Update: only “March 2016” appears via the down-arrow; but the images that appear are the same ones for “all dates” in the Media Library? (filter does not seem to be working). Proof: if I manually add the URL to any of the images that were not “permanently deleted” but only removed from the Media Library’s view (as shown in the initial post above), and the site page is reloaded, those images still appears?! Why are the other months and years not appearing via the down-arrow? And why did those image files not get permanently deleted as per that option; done manually, per image? If Media Library is the ‘file manager;’ how else can I access these images in their outdated “date” folders I must also permanently remove, that belong to the ARCBorne chapter? (and third party media owners).
