You can place an empty text widget in any sidebar and that will eliminate all widget display in it. However, that does not means you can blog in that space. Exactly which theme are you using please?

Widgets
Grisaille includes one widget area, the Primary Sidebar, which displays a search field, bookmarks, archives, categories, and meta by default if no widgets are configured in Appearance -> Widgets.

As I said above you need to place an empty text widget at the top of the sidebar. > Appearance > Widgets
