How to remove user but keep content

    Hello,

We have a blog for a course, and each year upwards of 40-50 new students become authors. I’d like to know if we can remove student authors from the previous year but keep their content. This way, would make it easier on the ‘About’ page to navigate posts for current authors only. Page I’m referring to is here: https://ihealthcomms.wordpress.com/about-2/

    Is this possible?

    Many thanks for your help!
    Lisa

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,
There may be a way to do this that I am unaware of. An alternative that comes to mind would be to use visibility settings in the Author Grid widget to eliminate authors from previous years. Hiding each departed author separately might soon result in an enormous widget. Perhaps instead you could add a tag to each posts identifying its author by the year in which he/she is or was active. Then you could hide each author tagged 2014, 2013, etc. in the widget visibility settings.

Posts of all authors would then still display, while the authors listed in the widget on the “About” page would be limited to those of the present year.

  • Just to add, from what I know, deleting authors will not remove their content/posts.

    @ ehtis,
Thanks. I haven’t tested this yet. I concluded that the posts must be removed by the following logical deduction. Perhaps I made a mistake.
    1. A post needs an author in order to display.
    2. An author must be a user.
    3. If you remove an author from your users, then posts contributed by that author should not display anymore, because the author is no longer among the eligible contributing users.

If a post continues to display after removing its author from the eligible contributing users, then the site now contains a post by an author without a user role assigned. Perhaps this is allowed if the author had a user role at the time the post was published.
