How to rename blog's url in the new version ?
-
Hi all. Happy new ’14!!!
I didn’t found how to rename blog’s url (blablabla.wp.com) for the new version. This part of the tuto is all for the former version. I clicked “My blogs” on the upleft WP icon, found the list of my blogs but when I pass my mouse on the adress there’s no popup appearing to let me change the adress…
I’ll be happy to know how to do and if you can answer me in French to make your explanations clearest as I’ll unserstand all with only one reading.Thanks per advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks a lot Timethief but if you can give an answer to this question you’ll be the welcome. French forum doesn’t have the answer…

You cannot edit any URL. If you want to change the blog address ie. the URL starting with http:// then
1. you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to do that
2. and the URL you desire must be available.
If so then you can change the URL by using this guide http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/Note that the site title (blog name) and blog address URL do not have to be the same. The Site title (blog name) and/or the optional Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. > Settings > General
“save changes”
That is exactly where search engine spiders look for the site title and removing it from there can cause issues with getting your content indexed. -
Thanks for your speed Timethief but as I wrote the tuto presents the old version of WP not the current one. If you have a look here : http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/general-settings/ you’ll see it’s not the same as the current version. Or I missundersand everything…
As wroten above : “I clicked “My blogs” on the upleft WP icon, found the list of my blogs but when I pass my mouse on the adress there’s no popup appearing to let me change the adress”… -

Thanks again. Subscribe to the thread is “Notify me of followup posts via e-mail” ? If yes I did.

If renaming is impossible I’ll create a new blog and copy-paste all my pages and then delete the old one. I wanted to rename it just to have less work to do because the one I want to rename is useless.
-
Do not delete any blogs as doing is permanent and cannot be reversed. Simply wait for Staff to help you please.

Are you wanting to:
1) change marieclaireicones.wordpress.com to a different WordPress.com address;
2) add a custom domain (like marieclaireicones.com);
3) move your site to a new hosting provider?For #1 please see the support documentation at http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
For #2 we explain how to register a new domain here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/
For #3 if that’s what you want to do, let me know and we’ll go from there.
In no case should you have to copy/paste your content into a new site. :)

Hello Jackie. Thank you for your answer.
#1 : done !
My bad… Didn’t notice “Note that this will take you to a different screen than the My Blogs tab on the WordPress.com homepage. You cannot change your blog address from the My Blogs section of the homepage.” I clicked the upleft WP icon to reach My Blogs because the icon drawn at the support does not look like it’s in real : it’s not a little house but the avatar I chose and it’s not written that the icon is at the right of the bar.
Thanks again to you two, Timethief and Jackiedana. Have a good end of week. -
You’re very welcome. Please let me know if you have any other questions about this issue.

1. Blog URL (https://…..) and blog title/name( e.g fancycars….) can both be changed?
2. Which one is seen by potential followers? Do they get to see the blog name or blog URL as they search for interesting blogs?
3.Also, will changing either of the above still make earlier posts available for viewing or are those posts lost forever?
-
@sweetyshinde, you can rename your blog to a different WordPress.com address (changing sitea.wordpress.com to siteb.wordpress.com) or map a custom domain to the blog (for example, to make it look like sitea.com without the WordPress part).
These are what are seen by visitors to the site in the address bar of the browser.
If you want to change your site’s title (what shows up on the actual website page) you can do that by going to your Dashboard and then changing the site title under Settings > General.
None of these changes affect the visibility of previous posts.

Hi Kevin.
For option #1 the good way to do it is :
– pass your mouse on the name of your site at the topleft of the menu bar of your blog (the name of mine is is preceded by the WP logo and a drawing of the earth) ;
– click “Dashboard” ;
– click “My Blogs” and you’ll have the list of all your blogs (if you have many) ;
– pass the mouse on the name of the blog you want to rename and you’ll see “Rename my blog” -or somethong like that because mine is in French and click on it ;
– fill the bars with your new adress ;
– confirm the new adress ;
– don’t click any chekmark ;
– validate with the button.That’s how I did and it works !!!
The other way is :
– click on WP icon at the topleft of your blog ;
– click “My Blogs” ;
– click “Dashboard” of the bar of the blog you want to rename ;
– then follow the same as written above…
Means 2 or 3 more clicks… Is it clear enough ?
Have a good end of week.
