how to renew

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to renew, but I only have the option to upgrade. I paid $18 last year and I do not see that option now.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello @bogiesfit,
You can renew your plans from the Manage Purchases section: http://wordpress.com/purchases

Read more about renewing plans here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/faq-renewing-and-canceling/#renewing-your-plans-and-domains

    Hope this helps 🙂

If that is the case, why can I not find the $18 renewal that I had before? The only options I have are to upgrade (lowest being $36) and not renew.

Your name is linked to an empty site. What is the address of the site you wish to renew the domain for?

The $18 price for domain renewal is something only available to people who have had WordPress.com accounts for a few years. They are given the option to carry on renewing their domains annually for $18 whilst new users need to have an upgraded plan (for $35.88 or more) to get a custom domain.

You’ve either let your domain expire or you’re logged in to the wrong account. If you perhaps have another account then log into that and the first link @otpidusprime gave you should give you access to the $18 option.

    @bogiesfit
Did you purchase the upgrade with your current account or some other account?

the card linked to my account was deactivated and my auto renewal didn’t go through. My domain is bogiesfit.com on the site “bogiesfitdotcom.wordpress.com”.

Oh dear. This is another case of a domain that is now in redemption. Staff hopefully can recover it but the cost is now $80 + $18

Recover an Expired or Cancelled Domain

  • @themagicrobot is right –

I checked with our registrar and bogiesfit.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

so if I upgrade I still won’t have access to that domain or will you charge an extra $80 so I can still have that domain? also, why is it $26 and not $18 to renew the domain?

  • If you do not want the private registration, it will still be $18. if you want to retrieve the domain during the redemption period, it will be an additional fee of $18 to get it from our registry partner.

Let me know if you want me to reach out to them.

    Thanks!

Just to clarify. A domain is $18 or $26 if you want to hide your personal details from view. And WordPress.com are charged an additional $80 by the registrar to recover domains in redemption. staff-doublebassd is replying to many threads each day and that second $18 was a typo.

if you want to retrieve the domain during the redemption period, it will be an additional fee of $18 to get it from our registry partner.

  • Thanks, @themagicrobot for the clarification of my typo. =) Yes, redemption is a fee of $80.

So what if I want to renew now and wait out the redemption period before renewing the domain? Is that possible or should I just wait out the redemption time then re-register? Can I be notified when the redemption period is over?

  • Hi there,

You have to wait out the redemption period before you are able to access the domain again. At that point, you’ll need to re-register the domain before someone else does. You can only renew the domain if you pay the redemption fee first.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
