How to renew domain when site owner is unknown and no current admins are getting a Renew notice?

The wordpress.com site for a group that I’m a member of has been associated to a domain name that is hosted on GoDaddy for some years now. On April 7 we changed the contact info for that GoDaddy domain because the info was for a person who no longer works with my group. Exactly 2 days layer, the website went down and we got a message that our WP domain had expired. GoDaddy says the problem is not them, it’s with our WP domain.

We are willing to pay to have it renewed, but we can’t figure out how to do it (I have read the FAQ on this). I along with 2 others are admins on the site, but none of us is getting a Renew message. The site was made many years ago and nobody knows who is the original owner. **How can we get this WP domain renewed? Can I be made the owner, so that we can renew the site?** Thanks for your help!

Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.

The owner of the site can transfer the site (and/or upgrades) to another account by adding another username account as an Admin. https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator

If you do not have the required access you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it and have them transfer the sites to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

I see you added the modlook tag. Please read what Staff said:

The regulations regarding domain ownership are very strict, and only the person who registered a domain, i.e. the owner, can make changes to a domain. This includes renewing the domain.

    Hi there,

Exactly 2 days layer, the website went down and we got a message that our WP domain had expired. GoDaddy says the problem is not them, it’s with our WP domain.

The domain mapping upgrade for arlingtontrees.org is owned by carrjones and expired 3 days ago. Are they able to login to their account and renew it from their Manage Purchases page?:

Once domain mapping has been renewed, it will start working again.

Come back to me if you have any problems.
