  • Hi Brian,

If your domain was registered with WordPress.com, then you can find the option to renew here:
    https://wordpress.com/purchases

In the case that you registered your domain with another third-party registrar, for example GoDaddy.com etc., then you’ll need to check with their support.

In the meantime I’ll tag this thread with the modlook tag, so that staff can come and have a look at your account in more detail.

How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question?
Some issues require staff member help. If you see or add a thread that you know needs staff intervention, you can add the modlook tag to the tags area of the thread to make sure we see it.

hey!! my domain already expired and it is no longer giving me the option to renew it…what can I do, pauloeaquino?

  • Unknown's avatar

@pauloeaquino, If I may jump in, I just answered a similar question and have the answer ready. :)

    Hi, @briannhira,

Yes, if your domain expired, you won’t be able to renew via your dashboard. I see via whoislook up that it is in the Redemption Period.

I also see that this is tagged for a staff follow up with the modlook tag. That is great. They will respond. To expedite, here is what you need to know:

According to whois, your site briannhira.wordpress.com has been removed from WordPress.com’s system and is now in redemption with their registrar.

The good news is that there is a possibility that WordPress.com staff may be able to recover the domain, while in redemption, but their registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee to restore it.

The responding staff member will confirm the price – just in case that has changed recently.

If you know you want to proceed if that amount ($80) is correct, you need to :
1)Agree to pay the $80 late renewal fee to recover your domain, should it still be available.
    2) Confirm the paid plan that you would like to use going forward (https://wordpress.com/pricing/)

Once you confirm that you wish to proceed, the staff member will create a payment request for you for the appropriate amount. Once paid, they may begin the process with their domain registrar. Typically takes 2-3 days in total.

Any other options? Yes, you may wait until the domain is released, but you may not be able to get it back if it is purchased at auction during this time.

Time is of the essence if you do decide to try and recover the domain, so let staff know how you would like to proceed, as soon as possible.

I hope you get it resolved quickly.

I definitely want to proceed with the redemption process!

am I not just waiting for a staff member to respond?

If you know you want to proceed if that amount ($80) is correct, you need to :
1)Agree to pay the $80 late renewal fee to recover your domain, should it still be available.
    2) Confirm the paid plan that you would like to use going forward (https://wordpress.com/pricing/)

This way when they respond, they can get working on it immediately.

So, i’m just waiting for them to respond to this thread so I can let them know that I want to pay the fee?

  • Unknown's avatar

    :)
    If you
    1) clearly state that you agree to pay the $80 late renewal fee,
    2) confirm your url
    and
    3) clearly state what plan you want,
then when they get to this thread, they can move right on it.
Does that make sense? Just trying to speed it a long for you. I’m not going to comment anymore, so they see this thread faster. Best of luck!

  • @christinemaze absolutely no problem! :)

@briannhira As Christine and I had mentioned, staff will come soon to help you resolve this issue. There are hundreds of posts made a day here in the forums, and staff usually work their way up from the bottom starting with the oldest unresolved thread first. So please wait patiently.

  • Hi there,

I’ve sent you a link via email which you can use to pay the redemption fee. Once we receive your payment I can email our registrar to request the redemption, and then your domain should be working again within a day or two.

@christinemaze, thanks for saving me the confirmation step with your detailed answer :)

    Thank you @kokkieh!
    I paid the redemption fee!

is there anything else I need to do?

  • Unknown's avatar

@kokkieh I am having the exact same issue. I posted in this forum in a separate post and have sent several support tickets. Can you help me? I am happy to pay the fee as well and definitely want to renew this domain. You can email me at (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  • @briannhira,

I’ve emailed our registrar to restore the domain. I’ll let you know as soon as they restore it.

    @gooseandmills

It looks like you’ve already been helped with this via live chat and email. In future, if you post in the forums, please tag your thread with the word “modlook” and then wait for a staff response, as you make it harder for us to help if you post into existing threads. Also please don’t post multiple tickets, as that can make it take longer to get a reply. Best to just submit one ticket and then wait for us to get to it.

  • @briannhira

Our registrar has restored your domain and I’ve reactivated it on your account. It is showing your site again.
