Create a PDF file with a different file name because if you upload one with the same one you will not get a replacement.

Thanks! But how frustrating that WordPress.com doesn’t allow corrections to uploads. Would this be a non-issue if I ran WordPress on my own server? I imagine I could switch files without WordPress “knowing”.

This would be a non-issue with a self-hosted WordPress site because you’d have access to the file directory and be able to replace the file manually.
For security reasons, that process isn’t possible on WordPress.com.
That having been said, the ability to update files, especially PDFs without breaking earlier links is a really useful feature, and I’ll add it to our list of feature requests.
I can’t make any promises, but if this update gets made, know that I will be rejoicing with you.
