How to Replace Media to have exactly the same URL?

    How can I replace a media item on my website?
    I have tried deleting the existing media item and re-uploading with exactly the same filename, but WordPress adds a ‘-1’ to the end of the new file URL to differentiate it from the original. I can’t seem to be able to find a way to edit the file URL either…

    Hi @beforenow, it’s not possible on the sites here. Even on your own installation you’d basically need to use FTP to replace the file, or a plugin. WordPress stores the file, but it also keeps a database entry for each file.

    You can replace the media item though, then change the link on a page or post. Then you can link to that page or post going forward, since its link won’t change no matter how often you replace the media on it.
