How to report harassment

  • Unknown's avatar

I have my blog set up so that I have to approve comments. I have two harassing (sexual harassment) comments pending. Is there a way to get some kind of information about who sent these?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Sorry you’re experiencing this. I highly suggest blacklisting these commenters from your site so they no longer can leave inappropriate comments:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-blacklist

We don’t give out email addresses of commenters…and frequently these trolls and spammers use false addresses anyhow. But, we can help to make sure their comments never appear on your site.

For more information about dealing with unwanted comments:

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thank you.

Depending on how you configured the comment requirement, there might be an email address but as noted above it might be fake, there should be an IP address also but that seldom will go to a specific computer, since many ISP’s use one IP address for many users.

then you have the other strange things, one friend lives in Seattle but when he visits a web site his location shows up as Washington DC and a different IP address every page view

DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS – never reply to them, engage them etc. let all their junk go into a dark hole – that tends to send them on to other sites where they can be abusive jerks

    DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS

Absolutely. Lightbreather, that is excellent advice. Do not converse with these folks.

Additionally, never delete those comments. Rather, make sure that you spam them. This will ‘teach’ Akismet to filter these for you.

I assume there are some circumstances under which you do, but not when it’s plain, nasty harassment without threats of violence?

It takes a court order from a U.S.court to get details on an account – or a request from the NSA saying the account is a terrorist might also work I guess
