How to request the addition of a new shortcode to wordpress.com?

We’ve developed a web application for the visualization of charts. We offer the possibility to embed little script snippets into webpages in order to integrate the charts in the pages. This works fine for self-hosted wordpress blogs (and other CMSes). This does obviously not work for wordpress.com blogs.

Instead, wordpress.com proposes a rather small list of shortcodes. The question now is what criteria do need to be fulfilled in order to have one’s own shortcode appear in that list?

    Thank you,
    Jakob.

PS: This is not particular to a specific blog.

I have flagged this thread for Staff attention.

  • Have you built a GPL-licensed plugin for WordPress to use your shortcode?

If so, is it available on http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ ?

Thanks, I take it your questions imply that these are (some) pre-conditions in order to qualify? Yes, a plugin is in the works, but not yet available.

Given that there are many thousands of plugins, of which I guess quite a number do propose shortcodes, there must be some additional step before a shortcode (and its associated plugin) gets promoted to show up in the list of those available on wp.com? Is it all about popularity, and depends on the number of requests you receive?

  • Yes, you’ll need to actually have a GPL-licensed plugin on the WordPress.org plugin repository first.

Once you do, please let us know!
