How to reserve data accidentally moved from my old site to this site
-
I set up a second wordpress site but accidentally moved across the data with it – so includes posts, likes, comments etc. Its totally not appropriate to that audience so I want to move it back/reverse the process. Help – what do I do? I’ve buried my head in the sand but definitely need it fixed. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi carolynappletree,
What are the addresses of the two sites you are referring to? Is carolynappletree.wordpress.com the site you wish to continue using?
Once I know for sure, we can look at the best way forward.
Thanks!

Thank you, that would be great!
This is the blog I moved data to: https://carolynappletree.wordpress.com
It should’ve remained on: https://foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com
Please advise on how I can move it back. Obviously I haven’t done anything with either site since.

All of the content is still on https://foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com — you just copied the data to the new site, you didn’t move it. Everything that was there before is still there; you can see that when you visit the site.
With the new site, you can just go into https://carolynappletree.wordpress.com and delete all of the posts, pages, comments, and other content that you don’t want there. You can get more information about deleting posts and pages at https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleted-posts-and-pages/, deleting media files (e.g. images) at https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/deleting-files/, and deleting comments at https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-comments.

If you want to move the data back to the old address, you’ll need to export it ( My Site > Settings > Export) then import into the old site.
Were you trying to create a second site or rename the first, by the way? It sounds like you renamed it, and that’s why all of the posts were moved.
-
Thank you. I was trying to create a second site and there was an option about data, I obviously then made the wrong choice.
I exported the data before so will go and see if I can import to the old site. Thank you. I assume this will mean ‘all data’?
Also, if I import it to the original site, Foodhealthy….will the data still remain on the new site carolynappletree as well even if I delete posts. Can you advise? I really don’t want it there at all.

OK so I’ve just gone to settings and done the import. The data hasn’t moved back so I still need to sort this. Please advise on next steps.
See this post & the number of people who liked it should be the same on both pages:

@carolynappletree I don’t know if you saw my earlier reply so I’ll post the information again here.
All of the original content is still on https://foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com — you just essentially copied the data to the new site, you didn’t move it. Everything that was there before is still there; you can see that when you visit the site. You don’t need to import the data back into the old site — it’s all still there from before, exactly as it was before you created the new site. You don’t need to do anything with that site. (Added: From the looks of things, you’ve already re-imported the content back into the original site so you now have at least one duplicate comment and possibly other content as well.)
With the new site, you just need to delete the content you don’t want. You can just go into https://carolynappletree.wordpress.com and delete all of the posts, pages, comments, and other content that you don’t want there. You can get more information about deleting posts and pages at https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleted-posts-and-pages/, deleting media files (e.g. images) at https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/deleting-files/, and deleting comments at https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-comments.

hi @melancholia thanks so much for your help and yes I did get the message before. I did what you said but the ‘likes’ and ‘comments’ haven’t moved back, which is what I wanted to do. This data is moved rather than copied because the ‘likes ‘ and ‘comments’ came across even though the articles remain on the original site. Even when I’ve exported the data from carolynappletree and then imported into foodhealthyme it has not pulled back the ‘likes’ and ‘comments’. I haven’t got many but I would’ve liked to have kept them.
For example see this post & the number of people who liked it should be the same on both pages:
https://carolynappletree.wordpress.com/2016/10/08/british-airways-short-haul-going-gluten-free/How do I move the ‘like’ and ‘comment’ data back?
-
Hi carolynappletree,
it has not pulled back the ‘likes’ and ‘comments’. I haven’t got many but I would’ve liked to have kept them.
The export file includes posts, pages, comments, categories and tags but not Likes I’m afraid. This means it won’t be possible to migrate those over to foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com.
The comments on both sites are the same although I do see a duplicate comment on foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com — that can be deleted if it isn’t needed.
-
That’s a real shame that they can’t go back to the original site. I think I’m therefore going to have to delete the original site and then reopen it and move the data back. Doesn’t sound like there is any other way.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Hi there,
This is the blog I moved data to: https://carolynappletree.wordpress.com
It should’ve remained on: https://foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com
Five months ago you renamed from foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com to carolynappletree.wordpress.com. When you do this nothing actually gets moved, but the old address is replaced by the new address while the site itself stays the same, i.e. it keeps the same internal ID in our system. Then we either delete the old address, or create a completely new site at the old address.
This process cannot be reversed, not even by deleting the old address, so please don’t try that. All that will achieve is removing the old address completely so you can’t use it at all any more.
The only option that comes close to reversing the process is what you’ve already done – manually exporting your content back to the original site. I’m not clear on what you mean by comments not being moved, though – if you export import a post or page, all comments on that post or page are moved as well.
We can also move your followers and stats back to the old site, but you should note that will move everything currently on the new site back, including any new views that were recorded and new followers that joined since you changed the site address five months ago. We cannot only move stuff that was already there before you changed the address.
If you’d like us to move your followers and stats back to the old address, please confirm.
There is no way to move back post and comment likes that were moved as part of a site address change, period.

Thanks, I’ve moved subscribers from carolynappletree.wordpress.com to foodhealthymeyou.wordpress.com .
Before I merge stats, though, can you confirm whether you intend to keep carolynappletree.wordpress.com as a separate site?
-
Yes I do. But I have never posted on carolynappletree as the data is in opposition to what I can /would like to talk about. I never wanted to move anything in the first place and it’s halted me writing things please move back.
-
Hi there,
I have successfully merged your statistics.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. I’m happy to help.
