How to reset a theme to default on “starter” plan?

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to completely reset a theme to its default version(the one you find when you pick out a theme for your website the very first time you’re on the admin dashboard). I am on the “starter” plan. I tried to activate another theme and then reactivate the original theme(“Spiel”) I used but to no avail as all the extreme modifications I had done to the theme were still present. I even tried resetting my website through the settings in the WP Admin dashboard and even that didn’t change it to the default. I am seeing advice of downloading “reset” plugins, but since I’m on the starter plan that’s out of the question for me. Any advice? Thank you

Thank you for reaching out regarding resetting your theme to its default version on WordPress.com. I understand the importance of starting fresh with your website’s design.

Since you’re on the Starter plan and unable to install plugins, you can try the following steps:

    • Reset Your Website: Follow this guide to reset your website to its default settings. This will delete all your content and configurations, so make sure to back up any important information before proceeding.
    • Theme Reactivation: After resetting your site, reactivate the “Spiel” theme. Sometimes, themes retain certain customizations even after deactivation/reactivation. If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
    • Custom CSS: If your modifications were made using custom CSS, you may need to remove or reset this CSS to revert to the default theme appearance. You can find and edit custom CSS under “Customize” > “Additional CSS” in your WordPress dashboard.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please let us know. We’re here to assist you further.
