how to resize photos? A once easy task has been rendered impossible. They are all huge and tell me they cannot be edited. I have used photo editors to resize but they come out the same on wordpress. At this point i cannot use any of my photos any longer/

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure exactly which images you are trying to resize on your site. Can you point out one or two so we can take a closer look?

For example, are you trying to resize any images in this recent blog post? How much smaller are you trying to make them (compared to what they are now?)

    Thanks for the additional info!

    Hi there,

I’m new with WP (and in the design of web pages). I do not know if it is the same problem but when I insert the image: Image block ->Select Image (Openverse, …) and then Settings -> Image size -> Thumbnail (or any other option), the image always re-size itself in the Preview to the max. wide (650px), even trying the align center option.

    Thanks in advance.

  • @azequiel thank you for sharing that — can you also share a link to the affected page or post? If it’s here with us we can take a look. Let us know which image you’re referring to, too.

Generally speaking, unless you’re working with a “featured image” you should be able to just grab the side/corner of the image and resize. If that isn’t working, we’ll need to investigate.

Featured images can be a little more complex, but we can likely help you find a way to get what you want. Just let us know more context so we can help. Thanks!

Thank you for your quick response,

    azequiel.wordpress.com

was until now private and used to learn how to use WP but in order to help to solve the issue I have published it. As you can see both images are the same. In the first one I have used the Image dimessions option in the settings and in the second one I have used the Image size option and selected Medium.

As you can see, someone is not doing their job well, me or the software :-)

    Thanks!

    @azequiel:

I’m showing that the top image is 300px x 300px. In your site’s Media Settings, the “Medium” image settings are also set to 300px x 300px, so it would make sense that the two images are the same.

You can change your image size defaults there if you choose, or you can have more granular control over the sizing by using the settings in the Image Block.

    I hope that clarifies things!

Hi there, thanks for the answer.

If everything seems to be correct, why the images are not shown in the same way?

So, what is it for or how the setting IMAGE SIZE (Thumbnail, Medium, Large, Full Size) should be used to display both images in the same way?

I’m a newbie but maybe it should be treated as a bug. In edit mode is shown correctly but when the page is “on line” then it happens.

    Thanks for all you do!

Thanks for clarifying! Pulling up your homepage, I do see the difference.

Can you give us the link to the file in your media library (or tell us the specific file name) so we can take a closer look?

  • Unknown's avatar

The link provided by de media library is: https://azequiel.files.wordpress.com/2022/08/4392965590_cb953086dd_b.jpg

Please, let me know if you need anything else.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

This looks like a bug, as the preview in the editor doesn’t reflect the published page.

I’ll try and replicate it and then report it to our development team.

It’s pretty easy to change the size of images in WordPress.

To start, go to your WordPress admin panel and click on Media » Library.

Now, either upload the picture you want to change or click on it in WordPress.

Under the heading “Scale Image,” you can change the size of your image. If you only enter the width, the height will be calculated automatically based on the image ratio, and vice versa.

In the first box, type in the width of the area you want to show. This was 695 pixels for us.

Click Scale when you’re done to change the size of the image.
