How to restore old page revisions?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I was editing a post. I found that my saved draft (lets call it the “final revision”) were constantly being replaced by some old version of my post. Frustrated, I gave up. Later I realized that I kept the edit-post window open in another computer, and hence an old version of text was being autosaved every minute. Let’s call this revision “unwanted revision”.

When I went back to the page revision module (after few hours), I found that all saved revisions are the unwanted revision.

Is there a way I could get my final revision back? I think if I had access to last 200 revisions (considering 1 autosave in every minute), I could identify it using diffs. However, WordPress keeps only last 25 revisions by default. Any ideas? I wanted to email the dev people, but I cannot find any direct email address.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please be sure you are running one of the browser versions here http://browsehappy.com first.

You may be able to recover an earlier post revision. Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/

If you’re not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.

If you cannot locate the post for locating and restoring a post revision, and it’s not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

Did you create your post on the dashboard of your own blog?
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

Or did you create your post on the front page of WordPress.com?

    Advice:
Create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

Or use an offline blog editor so you always have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

Sorry but we cannot go back further than 25 revisions to restore posts or pages.

    Thanks for your help.

Actually I needed to go back more than 250 revisions, and it was not possible. I had to start from an old snapshot again.

    Sorry for my late reply.
