How to retrieve my images library?
-
Hi
I recently moved to my own host and when importing my site from wordpress.com it would not import my images. I tried replacing all instances of https:// to http:// in the xml file but my images would still not import.
So as it is now, the images on my self hosted blog all link back to my free wordpress blog.
Example: http://obscurehandhelds.com/?p=2007
Obviously that’s not ideal, so I tried the WP Bulk Image Downloader tool, but it doesn’t work for me (after performing the search the “download” button becomes available but it has not found any images to download).
What I need to be able to do is download the images whilst maintaining the folder structure (ie blah.wordpress.com/2012/06/image.jpg) so that I can upload them to my host and bulk replace the target URL.
Is anyone able to help me with this?
Thanks

The blog you specified at obscurehandhelds.com does not appear to be hosted at WordPress.com.
This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.
If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.
If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.

Your images are in the attachments file and when importing you are prompted ie. asked whether your want to include them or not. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Sorry supportbot, I put the wrong site in – but this is about a wordpress.com site I promise :-)

Timethief, what do you mean by attachments file? All that exported from wordpress.COM is the XML. When I ticked the box to upload attachments into wordpress.ORG I was met with nothing but errors.
I was hoping the guys at .COM would give me a way to access my library directly so that I can sort it out manually. Is that not possible?

The attachments are properly attributed with the export file, which is all we can guarantee. You’ll need to contact http://wordpress.org/support/ for help with the import.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/

Hi Macmanx, thanks for your reply. I understand the difference between the 2 versions of wordpress.
The .ORG staff haven’t been able to help with my issue and I hoped I’d be able to get an export of my images from you guys here so that I can fix it myself. The prospect of downloading 1000+ images one by one is not a happy one!

We can’t provide a direct export of the images, they have to be brought across by the importer on the .org blog.

That’s a shame, and for me it’s going to be a nightmare. Oh well, thanks for the help never the less.
Cheers
