How to return to Classic Editor

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

been writing on my blog for a few years (since 2015), trying to postpone the Gutenberg Editor as much as possible, as I don’t find it intuitive at all. Today, against my will, the Gutenberg Editor became the default editor and I cannot change it back. The only option I found is the Classic Block, yet I find it too complicated for a blog about literature, where I just post short stories (no multimedia content whatsoever, just plain text). I don’t need to fidget with blocks when I want to write a chapter and publish it without distractions.

My blog is a free plan, so I don’t have the option to install plugins. Is there a way to return to previous editor? In case this is not posible, I will terminate the blog and move to another platform. Seriously, give users the choice.

    Greetings.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I hope that someone responds, rouphen. I would like to use the Classic Editor as well.

    Dear @rouphen, @connieciampanelli

am sorry you feel like this. We do understand that switch to Gutenberg is not welcome from your side.
But actually the process of updating to Block Editor is similar to changing a car. When old one becomes not safe to drive, it is normal that family members offer you a new one, isnt it? New one is not only safer, it also has new design, more comfort – but only when you get used to it, right?

    @rouphen,
You have found the Classic Block, that is already good. I see in your blog pages you use only one block type- Paragraph, even for Heading (only making it bold). That is absolutely fine. Keep using it in block editor. Maybe you have more specific questions about posting, saving, moving etc?

Anyway, if you face any problems, there are helping hands to help you!

  • Hi folks, we stopped using Classic in Calypso, but you can still reach it via wp-admin. Here’s how: https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor

You are NOT sorry that we feel like this, that we hate Gutenberg.

I’ve been doing web design since 1998 – I don’t think I need you to hold my hand while I start a new paragraph, excuse me – BLOCK.

Just leave us be. Let us choose. What the hell does WordPress care unless you’ve invested in Gutenberg or something (bad investment btw) – WE AREN’T ALL NEWBIES.

@twistedkilt You’ve been here for quite some time on WPcom and so you know that there have been significant changes to WordPress.com during that period.

If you’ve always written in the WP Admin editor since you started here, there’s little change for you going forward. If your sites have been changed to the Block Editor at MySites>Site>Posts, then the Classic Editor is available in WP Admin now.

If you have specific feedback to share with Staff about your Block editing experience, as opposed to venting or posting into someone else’s forum thread, I encourage you to start your own thread, which I see you have done here while I was writing this: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/gutenberg-26/ So I’ll reply to you there.

    I hate Gutenberg, too.
But I think I hate even more the paternalistic attitude of WordPress.com, trying to convince us that they have made a terrific job and we are so stupid that we can see it.
Sorry, but your new product is not a new car. Perhaps it’s a motorbike or a plane that you try to sell me as a car when I just need a car.
According to my needs, it is slower, has less funcionalities – for example, I have to go to html editor if I want to justify text – and makes me loose time and pacience to do the things, in my blog, on my own way.
Please let us choose the classic editor the way we used to, ou at least find a way to make your marvelous block editor usable for bloggers that just want to write posts. Most of us are grown up kids, not interested in play with blocks!
