How to Revert Back to Classic?
-
The New ‘block’ format is inelegant and much more complex. I want to revert back to Classic, but am being asked to purchase a new ‘business’ plan in order to do so. This adds insult to injury. Please help me change back to classic which I not only prefer, but contracted with WordPress to use.

Hi,
You can try to access the Classic editor using this link.

You do not need a business plan to try the above link.
There is also a Classic block that is similar to the Classic editor.

The classic editor is being retired.
Here is information about how to use blocks.

Using blocks with a little practice you may find is not as difficult as it might seem.

Given WordPress’ “new” approach to consumer satisfaction, that is (1) no phone calls, only forum or emails (reverting to forum), (2) decision to not support “classic” which was a truly easy and effective platform, and (3) saying one can revert back to classic, but, at least on my dashboard, requiring one to purchase an upgrade in order to do so, I feel as though WordPress has now joined the legion of tech companies that offer virtually no effective customer service. I guess my choice is to take it (and pay more) or leave it.

I have asked for a staff member to help you find out why you are asked to be charged to use classic editor since that should not be happening.
They can also give you their thoughts about your other issues as well.

Hi there,
It sounds like you’re trying to use the Classic Editor plugin. Plugins are add-on software for WordPress to add functionality that’s not included, and using any plugin on WordPress.com requires our Business Plan. This has always been the case, ever since we introduced the ability to use plugins here in 2017.
You are correct that using the Classic Editor plugin is the only way to revert your site back to using the classic editor by default on WordPress.com, as the classic editor no longer exists as a built-in feature on this platform, just like it no longer exists natively in the open source WordPress software. So the only way to use it is through a plugin, both on WordPress.com or if you host WordPress yourself.
Without plugins, you can use the classic block within the block editor for a similar experience.
Live chat and email support is available to owners of all paid plans on WordPress.com, if you prefer that over the public support forums we have available for free accounts.
